During my layover in Hawai'i, I wanted to explore a bit. I did a Google search for "Best Snorkeling in Hawai'i and found Makaha Beach Park. It's a 40 minute drive from the airport. There were several schools of fish right near the shore and a family of turtles as well. I snorkeled for a about an hour and a half. The day I went was particularly windy and the waves were pretty high, which made snorkeling both choppy and fun. Finding fish and turtles can be hit or miss, so it was a surprisingly beautiful experience to find them there and be able to swim so close to them. The turtles were completely unphased by me and I could swim up and touch them.
